On February 17, the commemoration day of St. George, prince of Vladimir (1238), a group of 815 Nizhny Novgorod citizens went on pilgrimage to Vladimir city to worship the relics of the saint. The pilgrimage is organized with the blessing of His Eminence Mitropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. Return tickets for the train had been delivered to all those who wanted at the churches of Nizhny Novgorod, Bor, Dzerzhinsk and Balakhna.
On arriving in Vladimir the pilgrims marched in a sacred procession to the Dormition cathedral were the holy relics of the sainted prince rest. This year the procession was headed by Archpriest Nikolai Gorbatovsky, rector of Nizhny Novgorod church in honor of Elijah the Prophet. Then the pilgrims prayed at the Divine Liturgy, a molieben and an Akathist to the saint celebrated by His Eminence Mitropolitan Eulogiy of Vladimir and Suzdal and venerated the holy relics. In his homily the Primate of Vladimir Metropolia say that faith should be sincere and lively like that of Prince Georgy.
For your reference: The tradition of the going on pilgrimage to the relics of St. George, the founder of Nizhny Novgorod, goes back to the pre-revolution times. It was restored in 2006 with the support of “Gorkiy Railways” JCS.
